Vale Neil Andrew

The Citrus SA committee was saddened to hear of the recent passing of the Honourable Neil Andrew AO.

Citrus SA Chair Mark Doecke said Neil was a respected politician and citrus grower who was instrumental in the “Moss” review, which examined how citrus growers could best be represented after the Citrus Board and Citrus Growers SA were wound up.

“Neil invited participants to be a part of the newly formed CASAR working under Citrus Australia in 2010,” he said.

“Neil was always a gentleman and a statesman with the nation’s best interests at heart.”

Hort Innovation Citrus Fund

More than $4.05 million in levies was invested through the Hort Innovation Citrus Fund in 2025/2026.

Have your say on irrigation testing

South Australian irrigation technician Brodie Watson-Victory is developing a new device to test irrigation pressure and flow. He is seeking feedback from growers and industry members about how they assess water supplies and irrigation efficiency, the challenges they face and potential improvements.

The online questionnaire takes approximately 6–9 minutes to complete, and participation is voluntary.

Complete the questionnaire.

Local fertiliser products

Citrus SA has been asked to share Vermico’s Blanchetown-made fertiliser range, which may interest growers. These products are not endorsed by Citrus SA.

November production notes

Hedging and pruning: Hand pruning or machine hedging.

Foliar nutrient spray and fertigation: Calcium spray at one per cent calcium nitrate at peas size may help reduce albedo. Potassium Nitrate applied after fruit set and during summer will have a beneficial effect on sizing.

Pesticide sprays: Critical timing to control LBAM, Mealy Bug, thrips, katydid, scales, aphids, Spined Citrus Bug and citrus gall wasp. Aim to apply controls before calyx closure.

Earwigs: Monitor your trees for decline and consult your agronomist or chemical reseller for more information.

Fruit sizing and thinning sprays: 2,4-D at rates advised by your packing shed or agronomist. Early applications in November might have some thinning effect (positive on heavy crops). Applications late November or early December will have a sizing effect. Corasil or Tops at recommended rates.

Irrigation: Continue monitoring during warmer months.

Weed control: Knockdown herbicides or residual herbicides as required.

All information is general in nature and growers should seek individual advice from their agronomist or packing shed.
