Citrus Growers Fund public meeting
Under the Primary Industry Funding Schemes Act 1998, the Citrus Growers Fund Management Plan is reviewed each year and was presented at a public meeting on Tuesday, July 28. The revised plan outlined projected grower contributions over the next five years, proposed investment priorities, and how the fund will support eligible projects that benefit the South Australian citrus industry.

Market tour – CANCELLED
Please be advised that due to a lack of responses, the planned tour of the South Australian Produce Market at Pooraka, Nippy’s Adelaide processing plant and the Adelaide Central Market on August 14 has been cancelled.
SA Power Networks – Draft Industry Guideline for consultation
SA Power Networks is seeking feedback from citrus growers on the Draft Industry Guideline to manage agricultural netting around powerlines.
It is seeking feedback on:

Do you have powerlines on your property?
How wide are your rows or what is the maximum sized vehicle that can access your orchard?
Do you have any recommendations for remediation to ensure SAPN have safe access to our powerlines?

Citrus SA set to crush it again in 2026 at the show
Citrus SA will once again showcase South Australian citrus at the Royal Adelaide Show in 2026, giving thousands of visitors the chance to taste fresh local fruit and learn more about the industry.
The Citrus SA display has become a popular attraction in the Goyder Pavilion, offering fresh citrus samples, freshly squeezed juice and the opportunity to speak directly with growers.
Last year, volunteers served more than 14,000 cups of fresh juice and 2,000 serves of citrus, while 20,000 oranges and mandarins were distributed through the Yellow Brick Road.
Citrus SA Chair Mark Doecke said the response from consumers was a highlight, with many asking where they could buy the fruit they had sampled.
“It’s a great opportunity to showcase some of the newer varieties being grown in South Australia and to talk about the quality fruit our growers produce,” he said.
The display also provides an important opportunity to connect consumers with growers, answer questions about citrus production and backyard trees, and raise awareness of industry issues including biosecurity and Queensland fruit fly.

Citrus South Australia Inc’s Annual General Meeting has been pencilled in for Tuesday, October 6 at 10am in Waikerie (venue TBC).

Weed control in orchards
Citrus growers may be interested in Alion® 500 SC Herbicide from Bayer, a pre-emergent herbicide registered for the control of certain grass and broadleaf weeds in citrus and other horticultural crops.
Containing indaziflam, a Group 29 herbicide, Alion provides residual weed control and offers a different mode of action for orchard weed management.
Growers can watch this video to learn more about Alion and its use in orchards.

August production notes
Pruning: It is a good time to begin your annual pruning program, especially before flowering begins. Those who prune generally see a vast improvement in class one fruit pack outs.
Fertilising and Fertigation: Soil temperatures will soon start to warm up, so start thinking about your fertiliser program to cover the spring flush. Those on drip irrigation or micro jets should also begin fertiliser programs. Foliar applications can be applied in late August to ensure a healthy spring flush.
Weed Control: Once fruit has been harvested it is important to control weeds to reduce the competition for water and nutrients, especially during the spring flush period.
