Citrus SA chair Mark Doecke says it vital growers have their input into the activities of their industry body.
“If you can’t make it to the AGM, I would urge you as a grower to at least take a minute to return a proxy form back via email,” he said.
Another successful show!
Citrus SA’s team was again run off its feet at this year’s Royal Adelaide Show. It provided more than 14,000 cups of fresh juice and 2000 cups of fresh citrus fruit to the crowds. The Yellow Brick Road activity saw 20,000 participants receive an orange and a mandarin – great exposure and promotion for our industry.
There were hundreds of questions from passers-by about industry and growing at the Meet the Grower Sessions while our mascot, Squeezy was often out and about mingling with the crowd.
Citrus SA chair Mark Doecke said the success of the event was due to the amazing team of volunteers and Royal Adelaide Show staff. Special thanks to Louise and Kirsty for organising the fantastic displays.
“It is a lot of work but it puts our industry in front of thousands of people that would otherwise not know about our commodity,” Mr Doecke said.
Women urged to apply for Agrifutures Grant
The Agrifutures Rural Women’s Award and Acceleration Grant are now open for applications for 2026. The Award provides access to a $15,000 Westpac grant, professional development and access to a 350-strong Alumni network. The Acceleration Grant provides a learning and development bursary.

October production notes
Hedging, Pruning and skirting: Pruning is a proven practice to increase fruit size, produce premium fruit by improving the pack-out percentage and reduce skin damage/ blemish. It also improves water distribution, chemical coverage and pest management. It is important to review the crop load of all patches this past season and determine a pruning strategy for each patch depending on crop load and expected blossom this season.
Foliar nutrient spray and fertigation: It is important to apply a foliar spray after fruit set to balance nutrition and supply trace elements in the tree and to improve fruit size.
As the season progresses it is a good idea to do some leaf testing to ensure your fertiliser program is correct for the season
Pesticide controls: Critical timing to control LBAM, Mealy Bug, Thrips, Katydid, Scales, Aphids, Spined citrus Bug and Citrus gall wasp. It is important to keep track of CGW emergence to ensure control strategies are as effective as possible.
Increase Fruit set sprays: Now is the time to consider fruit set strategies based on the previous seasons crop load. Please consult with your packing shed/GLO/consultant for rates, etc.
Irrigation: This is critical during flowering and fruit-set, regular maintenance of infrastructure and monitoring of soil moisture is critical to ensure trees are not stressed.
Weed control: Knockdown herbicides or residual herbicides as required.
